SCHOOL OF PHOTOGRAPHY

With nearly a decade of experience teaching photography (each, not between us!) we have considerable experience of helping people get to grips with digital photography. As well as providing tuition on a one-to-one or small group basis we arrange occasional field trips as well as running courses and workshops on behalf of other organisations.

Tuition

As experts in teaching Digital Photography we can provide tuition in most aspects of the subject. No matter whether you have a Compact Camera or a DSLR we can help you to master the most important controls on your camera and use them effectively to take better photographs. When you have taken your pictures we can show you how to download and organise them and to edit them, using simple but effective techniques to improve and enhance them, or guide you through more advanced work such as using Layers and Adjustment Layers and the delights of RAW.

We are happy to work with individuals or small groups, and all sessions are tailored to the needs and interests of the participants, so why not contact us for a chat or to arrange a date.

Price per person:

1 or 2 people     2hrs - £30     Half day - £40     Full day - £70

3 or 4 people     2hrs - £25     Half day - £35     Full day - £60

5 or 6 people     2hrs - £20     Half day - £30     Full day - £50

If you prefer us to come to you there may also be a charge for travelling expenses.

Flower Photography in the Dales

These events are part of the Flowers of the Dales Festival, which features a wide range of events and activities to help people discover and celebrate the wonderful wildflower habitats found in the Yorkshire Dales. The Festival runs from May to September and is being co-ordinated by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. The Festival programme is available from tourist information centres and other outlets or can be downloaded from www.ydmt.org.

FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY WALK

Date: 12 June 2010    Price: £15

An afternoon photography walk at the Malham Tarn Nature Reserve. Malham Tarn is England's highest freshwater lake, and the board walk across the reserve offers a wealth of opportunities to photograph flowers and plants in this beautiful area. This will be an ideal opportunity to practice photographing plants and flowers in their natural setting, with plenty of informal guidance and assistance along the way. No prior experience is needed so the walk will also be suitable for beginners (adults only, no dogs please).

PHOTOGRAPHING WILD FLOWERS

Date: 26 June 2010    Price: £25

This full day of photography will be based around the Natural England reserve at Colt Park (near Ribblehead). The hay meadows around Colt Park are being restored to a wild flower-rich situation and there is also a stretch of ancient woodland to be found here. We will examine the camera controls and techniques needed to make really effective pictures along with some hints and tips to make your pictures really stand out from the crowd, and participants will have the opportunity to explore the making of more creative images as well as accurate botanical records.

Digital Photography at Malham Tarn Field Centre

This year we will be leading two courses run by the Field Studies Council at the Malham Tarn Field Centre, as follows:

Photoshop for Photographers - details here.

Landscape Photography in the Dales - details here.

To book a place on either of these courses please contact the FSC direct.

Digital Photography Roadshows

These vary from short evening talks to a full day and are aimed at clubs and groups. We use a mixture of teaching, demonstration and (where possible) practical work to cover appropriate aspects of digital photography, with the precise content being varied to suit the needs of the group.

DIGITAL CAMERAS

Learn about the most important controls on your camera and how to use them to best effect to take the kind of pictures you really want to get. It doesn't matter whether you have a simple compact camera or a professional-style SLR, it's amazing what a difference it can make once you begin to properly understand how your camera works.

EDITING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Digital photographs straight from the camera can often be significantly improved with a few simple techniques in Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements). From lightening and brightening all or part of a picture to removing unwanted objects or blemishes, there is tremendous satisfaction to be gained from editing your pictures to get the best from them.

Please contact us to discuss your requirements and for a quotation.
